eldritch Priest - the brown study

the
brown study (an
“abstract reverie” or “gloomy contemplation”) is eldritch
Priest's continuous, non-repeating melody with a duration of
approximately 120’00”. This work revolves around the concept
of musical risk and aims to cultivate it by asking each
performer to interpret the compositional ideal (the “score”)
as a continuous point of departure for exploring the
capacities of his or her owns musical habits and
idiosyncrasies. These “self-experiments,” carried out during
and as the performance, become the piece itself and give
expressive profile to what is essentially a melodic
singularity. Since the convergence of personal eccentricities
and musical wills become elements of the composition itself,
the brown study is less an aesthetic object and more an
expressive event whose "sense" is in the making of surface
weirdness and poetic hazard.
